I’m relieved to have
a piece of Michigan
here in my living room:
Petoskey stones
snatched long ago
from a Great Lake.
To the horror of my friends,
I like to slip the ancient fossils
into my mouth
and spit them back out,
the honeycomb pattern
illuminated by my
expectoration.
