Going Home

The bench stands empty this dawn
beneath the unbending madrone on the bluff
above the Sound. The water’s smooth, untorn
by yesterday’s cast stones. So it is I go home
wearing skin, warm again
to wrap two sons within then find a way
to release them, eager butterflies into day.
