POET OF THE WEEK
L. J. Morin
Week of May 25
RECOMMENDED READING The book Plume, by Katherine Flenniken, is a fascinating exploration of the Hanford nuclear site from multiple points of view, in poems that range from straightforward to experimental in form. Politically nuanced and emotionally gripping.
FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD Quesadillas with salsa and guacamole.
ON MY FRIDGE A haiku I wrote for my husband, to celebrate the delicious coffee he makes for me every morning: I’m on the bus when… aahhh! The caffeine hits– delayed hug and kiss from you.
As if through aquarium glass:
near, clear, untouchable.
Faces and buildings you once knew,
skewed. You left in haste, now go back
as a diver transported, in
that world but no longer
of it, the sea
conducting your grief
to your skin: the lost bones
are your own.
