Dear Emily

Shoes still caked
in hometown dust,
I walk alleys
of beautiful graffiti.

Across from me,
skyscrapers stretch
and yawn
stony edifices.

The street is our
breakfast table,
flooded with fresh
coffee and marketeers

who wrap me
in the heart
of their city
sans skipped beat,

they say,
“Take a seat.”
