POET OF THE WEEK
Arlene Naganawa
Week of January 5
FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD Anything chocolate. White rice. Sukiyaki.
HOME LOOKS LIKE Sweet peas, gladiolus, pansies, marigolds.
ON MY TABLE A glass vase filled with seashells.
A picket fence corrals the house.
Dick and Jane could live here.
I learn to iron handkerchiefs,
to embroider the French knot,
the lazy daisy. To stitch a swallowtail
on a dishcloth, to frost a cake
swept with soft sugar. Melt butter
on broiled toast, triangles of Wonder.
