To Clair…

POETIC INSPIRATION Frank O’Hara’s “Having a Coke with You.”
HOME LOOKS LIKE The grey sky and equally grey water.
MAKES ME SMILE Doing small things for people, usually for no particular reason. I leave little notes a lot, or just tell someone I was thinking of them. I think it’s important to let people know they matter to you.

Summer 1999

i grew up sipping on
salt & soundgarden,
burning my shoulders salmon pink.

i cradled armfuls of blushing yakima cherries
swam with buoyant watermelon belly
full and deep as the entire puget sound.

i curled coastline into my bed
after these longest days,
the windows wide open
trees all lullabying.
