My Heart, Twice Removed

My mother’s father, a
sepia-toned man
I never met, was sewn
up tight. Jacket buttoned,
collar buttoned, mouth
shut, ears obscured by
hair. Open eyed, giving
nothing. But, beneath
jacket and shirt and
tie and undershirt and
skin and bone ticked
a heart ready to
burst
from too much
much.
