India

A noisy, ordinary street.
In the distance,
the sudden cobra wailing
of clarinets,
then insistent tablas tap
resounding heart, sky.
Elephants turn the corner!
Shaking, ecstatic dancers
churn clouds of dust
in this festival procession.
Tambourines shimmer,
the leader beckons, struts
like a peacock.

I am so far from home.
