Around the Block at Highpoint

Two little girls hang
upside down on monkey bars,
heads in hijab bobbing,
gangly boys in baggy shorts
dribble and shoot.

Above the pond
water
cascades
over
rocks,
Beyond the jogging path,
vistas of cargo ships,
skyscrapers, the Needle.
In the rushes a heron stands,
waits for lunch.
