letters home to mom in joburg

at first an awkward young written voice,
becoming eloquent, funny, insightful,
writing often in the first years,
then life here distracted me,
falling silent in the mail,
now dad and my only brother are gone,
again time to paint my life in words,
for mom alone across the planet
