SEA SHINE

Tide moves in, so sea can preen
and glide along the sand, comb fluid weeds,
make pebbles shine, so sky’s clear night can linger
in small shimmers on briny day-lit land.
Then tide moves out and carries off the gleam,
so sea can clean its barnacles and clams.
