RAINSCAPE ALONG THE SAMMAMISH SLOUGH

Rhythmic raindrops
Be-bop the branches--
Pitter-patter, thwack.
Each tree leaf quivers,
A tapped cymbal;
Splattered syncopation.

Steady raindrops;
Thrum, thrum,
The windows cry.
Tiny, shiny beads,
Stutter down panes
Haltingly as tears.

Playful raindrops,
Quick as finger-snaps,
Skip across the river;
Puddle-bounce and
Ricochet like flipped jacks.
