The Water that Saved Me

When I was a baby,
curiosity rolled me
down the long back porch staircase
into a barrel of water.
Water that threatened life
spared my back from breaking.
Sometimes I dream of floating in water;
my soul suspended on a ship,
my unbroken body
drenched in mother’s thankful tears.
