FOR THE MAN WITH THE GUN IN HIS HAND

You and I aren’t so different.
From our mothers’ bodies
we broke water, and,
as with my own,
you lay perfect
in your mother’s hands.
Go back. Before
the nothing-to-lose,
before the break,
to the woman who
formed a body of water
inside her body
just for you, her miracle.
