Offering

I offered myself to the sea
A toe to start
Shaking knees
Blanching navel

It considered me
rolling my body like a sour candy

I would have let it swallow me whole

It spat me out
I gasped
newborn and aching

The waves brushed my ankles
Whispering
Go on home
