LEARNING TO SWIM

Never in Lake Erie’s polluted waves.
After the Cuyahoga River burned, I came
to the edge of the Pacific, waves reaching
the horizon with their fill
of jellyfish, devil fish, ribbon worms,
and I am swimming in my own body,
55-78 percent water.
