Washed Words (a Horse to Water)

Apt, the body of work like a lake.
Emerge breathing heavy, creating ripples.
Lips dampened in order to speak
but aeons dry them up.
The wetness of page finds waiting.
Syntax rivers drain into throat
and pool into chest.
Washed, the words show themselves –
like shoulders from fallen sleeves.
