Somewhere Cold, Yet Comfortable

Here,
in the chilly blue waters
that my ancestors have
used as an interstate,
paddling their long boats.
I feel a warmth
in the brisk Alaskan air
as I recognize this waterfront will always be my home
even if the banks fall away and the river becomes earth again.
